Child Safety Standards
Hazinova is a voice-first app for families and communities to record and share their stories. It is operated by Tamalaki Business Network Ltd, Nairobi, Kenya. We have zero tolerance for child sexual abuse and exploitation (CSAE), including child sexual abuse material (CSAM), grooming, sextortion, trafficking and any content that sexualises a child. These standards apply to everyone who uses the Hazinova app and hazinova.app, and to all stories, recordings, photos, videos, replies, voice replies, comments, profiles and story pages.
1. Who can use Hazinova
Hazinova is for adults aged 18 and over. Children may appear in family stories told by adults, for example a grandparent recording a story for a grandchild, but these stories must never sexualise, endanger or exploit a child. Adults share stories about a child only with a parent's or guardian's consent.
2. What is not allowed
- Any image, video, audio or text that depicts, describes, promotes, solicits or links to the sexual abuse or exploitation of a child (CSAM), including drawn, edited or AI-generated material.
- Grooming: contacting or befriending a child to sexually abuse or exploit them, including asking for images, private conversations or meetings.
- Sexualised comments about children, sextortion, or threats to share intimate images of a child.
- Child trafficking, or offering or advertising a child for sexual purposes.
- Sharing a child's identifying details, school or location to put them at risk.
3. How we prevent abuse
- Adults only. Accounts are for people aged 18 and over.
- Private by default. Each story goes only to the audience its storyteller chooses (only me, family, community, restricted or public). Private audio and photos are shared only through short-lived secure links, and saved story locations are rounded to about 2 km.
- Guardians. Community groups have guardians (kaitiaki) who can approve, restrict or remove what is shared.
- Review before going public. My Story pages marked "Setting the record straight" are reviewed before they can be made public.
- Block. Anyone can block another user. Blocking hides each person's stories, pages and replies from the other and stops replies and questions between them.
4. How to report
- In the app: tap ••• on any story, reply, voice reply or profile, then Report, and choose the reason that fits best (for child safety concerns, choose "Sexual content" or "Something else" and describe the concern). Story pages can be reported from their own menu. Reports go straight to our safety team.
- By email: [email protected] with the subject "Child safety". Please send the link or the name of the story or account. Do not attach or forward abusive images or recordings.
- If a child is in immediate danger, contact your local police first. In Kenya, call 999 or 112, or the free Child Helpline on 116.
5. How we act on reports and CSAM
- Priority review. We review child safety reports before all other reports, within 24 hours.
- Removal. We remove content that breaks these standards as soon as we find it or are told about it, and restrict access to it while we review.
- Enforcement. We permanently close accounts that share CSAM or try to exploit a child.
- Evidence. We preserve the content and account information that the law requires and that the authorities need for an investigation, and we keep it secure and access-limited.
- Reporting to authorities. We report apparent CSAM and child exploitation to the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) of the Kenya National Police Service, and where relevant to Child Helpline Kenya (116) and the authorities of the country concerned. We cooperate with lawful requests from law enforcement.
6. Compliance with law
We comply with child safety laws in the places we operate, including Kenya's Children Act, 2022, Sexual Offences Act, 2006 and Computer Misuse and Cybercrimes Act, 2018, and the laws of other countries where Hazinova is available. We follow Google Play's Child Safety Standards policy and Apple's App Store Review Guidelines.
7. Child safety contact
